Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese Medical Therapy using very fine, thin stainless steel needles into the body at specific points, which have been empirically proven effective in the treatment of specific disorders. It improves the flow of blood circulation allowing oxygen, blood and lymph to support the body’s healing process.
Acupressure involves placing gentle firm pressure, by fingers, palms, elbow, or special devices to apply pressure to different pressure points on the surface of the body to bring about relief through greater balance and circulation of qi. When these points are pressed, they release muscular tension and promote the circulation of blood and the body’s life force energy to aid healing. Acupressure will act on the whole body to facilitate deep relaxation, relieve discomfort and pain, and increase the regenerative capacity of the body by unblocking the flow of energy.
Herbs can be a powerful adjunct to acupuncture care. They are used to strength, build and support they body or to clear it of excess problems like a cold, fever or acute pain. Your practitioner may suggest starting with acupuncture and then adding herbs to your treatment in the future. This is suggested to build up your internal strength so you can receive the full benefit acupuncture has to offer.
Cupping is a therapy designed to stimulate the flow of blood and Qi within the superficial muscle layers. It is used for sore muscles, tension, neck pain and the common cold. In this therapy, your acupuncturist will place small glass cups over specific ares on your body. A vacuum is created under the cup using heat or suction. They may be moved over and affected area or left in place. You may leave the office looking as though a large octopus gave you a big hug. There is no need for alarm. The slight redness will quickly dissipate.
